In 1989, after nine years of painstaking establishment and revision of procedures, refining practices and preparing compliance with professional law enforcement standards, the Aiken Department of Public Safety achieved accredited status as only the third Public Safety agency in the country to be awarded this high honor. In the same year, the department received an ISO Class 2 fire protection rating for the city limits and suburban fire limits, the highst ranking available for a city the size of Aiken.

The City of Aiken Department of Public Safety is accepting applications for Community Service Officer (CSO). Major duties are to perfrom general security patrols at the City of Aiken's recreational facilities. This is a part-time, non-sworn position that will be expected to work evenings, weekends, and other special times as assigned. Must have a HS diploma or equivalent, be at least 21 years of age, and possess a valid S.C. driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record. Candidates will be screened to the same standards required for law enforcement officers in S.C. Salary is $12.16 per hour with no benefits.
