Many design alternatives are proposed for the Dougherty Road Corridor Study and public comment is very helpful during this analysis phase. Send comments by March 15th via our contact page or Planning Dept., City of Aiken, PO Box 1177, Aiken, SC 29802. Display boards are found on the main floor of the Municipal Building, 214 Park Avenue SW and on the cityofaikensc.gov web page.
The Dougherty Road Corridor Study, a joint Aiken City/Aiken County study using URS Consultants, is examining several alternatives addressing corridor and network features for Dougherty Road and the vicinity. Guiding principles and visual preferences have been identified through a series of public meetings and surveys.
The findings from additional analysis of the pros and cons of each possible alternative will be presented April 2013. Work on data collection, transportation analysis, traffic modeling and an assessment of user and neighborhood needs and preferences are part of this systematic planning study. Recommendations will address vehicular capacity and flow balanced by community desires.
A report on the Study will be available by early Summer.
Please contact the City of Aiken Planning Department or 803-642-7608 for more information.
Information will continue to be posted as the study progresses.
