Back by popular demand: Several Horseplay horses to stay on display

Six of the immensely popular Horseplay horse sculptures have been donated to the city and they, along with several others in private ownership, will remain on display around town.
Three of the six sculptures now owned by the city will be put on permanent display at Hopelands and Rye Patch, one of the three others will be set in the Newberry Street festival area, another at the intersection of Laurens Street and Park Avenue and the one originally sponsored by the city will remain at the rear entrance to the Municipal Building.
Several other Horseplay horses will remain on display, including the horse at the West Side Bowery, and Washington Center, Regions Bank, the Green Boundary Club, and others.
City Manager Roger LeDuc said he appreciates the generous nature of the people and companies that bought the sculptures in support of the Aiken Center for the Arts and then allowed them to remain on display for the enjoyment of the people of Aiken. "Horseplay was met with enormous approval by our citizens and by thousands of visitors to Aiken. There was overwhelming support that they be kept in public view as visible support for public art and for Aiken's historic equestrian traditions," LeDuc said.
