City Managers Office
City Manager
The City Manager is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the City Council. The manager is the chief administrative officer of the city government and is subject to the direction and control of the City Council.
The City Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective administration and operation of all municipal services for the City of Aiken, including preparation of the annual budget.
Assistant City Manager
The Assistant City Manager is appointed by the City Manager, and represents and substitutes for the City Manager in official functions, duties, and supervision of operations. The Assistant Manager assigns staff for the Building Codes and Appeals and the Community Development Committee, and oversees the neighborhood and inspection division.
City Clerk
The City Clerk is appointed by the City Manager. The City Clerk's duties include serving as clerk to the City Council, recording and filing council actions, administering oaths and performing clerical duties for the City Manager. The City Clerk is also the custodian of the official seal and all official documents of the City of Aiken. The City Clerk makes all official documents in his or her custody available for inspection by any citizen, any representative of a citizen's organization, or any representative of the press at all reasonable times and under all reasonable regulations established by the City Manager's Office.
City Attorney
The City Attorney, like the City Manager, is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the City Council. As the City of Aiken's chief legal advisor and prosecuting attorney, the City Attorney advises the City Council, its committees, the City Manager, and other city officers, when requ~sted, on all legal questions arising in the conduct of city business. The City Attorney also serves by preparing city ordinances, preparing all contracts to which the city is a party, and appearing for the city in all actions, cases, and special proceedings before all courts in which the city is a party. The City Attorney is directly responsible to the City Council, but acts in concert with the City Manager.
