Welcome to the City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism

The City of Aiken’s Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department is dedicated to enhancing the lives of our residents and guests by providing meaningful parks, recreation, and tourism opportunities. The department operates a variety of facilities, including the Smith-Hazel Recreation Center, H. Odell Weeks Activities Center, Citizens Park complex, Rye Patch & Hopelands Gardens, Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum, Amentum Center for Performing Arts, Aiken Visitors Center, and Train Museum (often referred to as the Depot), Aiken County Farmers Market, Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior & Youth Center, Carolina Bay, and multiple community parks & playgrounds. Department divisions organize sports leagues, develop recreational programming for residents of all ages and maintain local venues for special events.

Employees promote health and fitness by providing various activities, wellness programs, and educational opportunities. The department encourages Aiken’s tourism through print and online media advertisement and welcomes area visitors with information and local tours. The department is divided into four divisions: Administration & Recreation, Athletics, Parks, and Tourism. Staff liaisons serve on the Recreation Commission, Senior Commission, Arts Commission, and Accommodations Tax Committee.
