Welcome to the City of Aiken Department of Public Services

The Department of Public Services is divided into three divisions: Administration, Grounds and Solid Waste. Administration provides oversight to the other two divisions, which provide waste removal services to residents and businesses and grounds maintenance to many public spaces.

The Grounds Division maintains and cares for many public spaces including but not limited to Aiken’s historic parkways, Hopelands Gardens, The Alley, Newberry Street Festival area and Aiken’s public fountains. The division also maintains the city’s flower beds, trees, irrigation and mulched areas throughout the city.

The Solid Waste Division provides garbage, recycling, and yard trash removal services to the residents of the City of Aiken, which includes the weekly collection of refuse from over 13,000 customers. Garbage is carried to the Three Rivers Landfill, located south of Jackson, SC. Recycling is collected from residents on a biweekly basis, and taken to the North Augusta Recycling Facility, where it is processed and sold. Yard Waste collection of vegetative materials like grass clippings and tree branches is completed curbside on a weekly basis. The Solid Waste Division also provides special pickups for a variety of items, such as white goods, furniture, e-waste, oil, paint, and other items.
