Lecture by local photographer Ginny Southworth at Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame

Tuesday, July 26, 2022

The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism will host a lecture by Ginny Southworth, a local photographer, on Sunday, August 14, from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Southworth will discuss ways to take great equine photos. This lecture is free, but registration is required by contacting 803-643-2121, or 803-642-7631.

Ginny Southworth moved to Aiken in the summer of 1979. The strong horse community and the thoroughbred industry were among the main reasons she made Aiken home. She has been capturing photos at the Aiken Training Track for 36 years and has been honored to get to know many renowned trainers, riders, and support staff who have distinguished it.

She is currently a professor at the University of South Carolina Aiken, teaching and creating classes for the photography program. Southworth received her Bachelor of Science in Photojournalism from Syracuse University and her Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the University of South Carolina.

Southworth spent over thirty years as a newspaper documentary photographer and served as the chief photographer at the Aiken Standard for twenty-six years. During that career, she won many awards for her work and was published in national magazines and newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post, The Blood-Horse magazine, Thoroughbred Record, Associated Press, and Sky Magazine.

Southworth continues photographing and enjoying the amazing landscape of Aiken and its horses. Visit to view her current catalog of photos.

An exhibit of Southworth’s work will also be on display at the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame from August 14 – 28, 2022. Regular exhibition hours are Tuesday – Friday from 2 – 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday from 2 – 5 p.m. For more information, call 803-642-7631, e-mail or visit the Hall of Fame website at
