The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is excited to announce its request for Youth Commissioners to serve alongside the Recreation Commission.
The Recreation Commission consists of seven Commissioners and up to four Youth Commissioners. The Recreation Commission serves as a liaison between the city residents and program participants and the Aiken City Council to ensure the development and provision of appropriate, quality recreation facilities, services and programs.
The Recreation Commission holds its regular meetings on the third Tuesday every other month (beginning in January; no meeting in July; resume in August) at 5:30 pm in the conference room of the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Administration Office, located at 1072 Banks Mill Road, Aiken, SC 29803.
Nominations are accepted for junior-year high school students from any public or private high school or homeschool in Aiken that is interested in serving as a Youth Commissioner on the City’s Recreation Commission. The term of office runs for two academic school years (junior and senior). No special experience is necessary.
Applicant understands they are responsible for providing or arranging transportation to and from meetings, and if three consecutive regular Commission meetings are missed that his/her seat may be declared vacant.
