FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Monday, March 27, City Council unanimously passed first reading of an ordinance to abolish the Aiken Municipal Development Commission and turn over all AMDC-owned real estate and financial assets to the City of Aiken.
During the public discussion of this item, comments were made about a perceived conflict of interest involving Councilmembers Gail Diggs and Lessie Price due to their ex officio status with the Aiken Corporation.
Council was advised there is no conflict of interest for Councilmembers Diggs and Price to participate in a vote to abolish the Aiken Municipal Development Commission because the proposed Council ordinance does not involve any City transfer of property or assets to the Aiken Corporation.
