City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department Invites Community to
Aiken Senior & Youth Center Grand Opening
Aiken, SC – Wednesday, April 24, 2019 –The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism will host the grand opening of the Aiken Senior and Youth Center, located at 841 Edgefield Avenue NW Aiken, SC 29801. The grand opening, commencing at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24th, will feature facility tours, light refreshments, and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. There is no fee to attend this community event.
Citizens in attendance will see the completion of a state of the art 12,600 square foot recreation and event rental space. The center features a large banquet hall with a seated capacity of 296 that has the capability to subdivide into three separate hall spaces with seated capacities of 96 each, a warming kitchen, computer lounge featuring seven workstations and an enrichment classroom.
The Aiken Senior and Youth Center will provide a new space for the citizens of Aiken and surrounding areas to hold large formal events while also having the ability to accommodate events such as wedding receptions, birthday parties, family reunions, baby showers, business meetings, and conferences. The facility is open for rentals to take place in increments of 6-hour time blocks, Friday 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday between 6:00 a.m. and Midnight.
The facility will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., hosting fitness classes catering to the Senior Adult community, such as SilverSneakers, Zumba Gold, Walk with Ease, Matter of Balance, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, and Yoga. Enrichment activities such as Bingo, Card Clubs, Brain Games, Creative Arts, and craft classes will also be available. Little Yogis and Family Story Time are current offerings for youth, but more enrichment and afterschool activities such as tutoring, fitness, and cooking classes will also be available in the future.
