April is National Fair Housing Month – Know Your Rights
Knowing your rights is the first step in fighting housing discrimination. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) initiated this campaign in efforts to end housing discrimination and raise awareness of fair housing rights in communities across the country.
The City of Aiken recognizes National Fair Housing Month in April and supports the federal Fair Housing Act that prohibits discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status or disability. Choosing where you live is a right. Housing discrimination is wrong. If you feel you have been discriminated against, call the HUD Hotline at 1-800-669-9777 (English/Español)/1-800-927-9275 (TTY) or visit www.hud.gov/fairhousing.
