Mayor Rick N. Osbon and the City Council of Aiken has proclaimed the month of June 2019, as Homeownership Month. The proclamation, read by City Councilman Ed Girardeau (District 4), at the June 10 council meeting, states this is an opportunity to encourage citizens to explore the benefits of owning and maintaining a home, and because a home provides shelter, and a safe place where families can prosper, and children can thrive, homeownership is an important part of the American dream.

The proclamation also states that the Aiken Board of Realtors has scheduled a Homeownership Expo on June 22, 2019, at the H. O. Weeks Center and Virginia Acres Park to provide information on homeownership and a family fun fair. It also encourages all citizens of the City of Aiken to work together to promote quality affordable housing, safe communities, and increased ownership opportunities for the residents of Aiken. All are encouraged to attend the Homeownership Expo celebration.
