City of Aiken Selects Kim Abney, CPA As Assistant City Manager
Aiken, SC— City Manager Stuart Bedenbaugh announced the selection of Kim Abney as Assistant City Manager. Upon announcing the hire, Bedenbaugh said: “Kim will help staff and me with our continual goals of improving our City and striving to bring first-class customer service to our citizens and businesses.” Abney has worked in the City of Aiken’s Finance Department since December 1992. She was the Assistant Finance Director for 16 years before being named the Finance Director in January 2009. Abney, a graduate of St. Bonaventure University, is a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to entering public service, she worked as an auditor in Augusta, Georgia and Buffalo, New York.
Abney has served the community in many different ways, including the Aiken Jaycees, the Aiken Department of Public Safety’s Police Athletic League, the Rotary Club of Aiken and as Treasurer of American Legion Baseball. She is a graduate of Leadership Aiken County and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Professionally, she is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Government Finance Officers Association.
A resident of Aiken for 29 years, Kim is married to Richard Abney and they have three children. Her parents relocated to Aiken three years ago.
