The City of Aiken is working with contractors on an exciting project to clean, video, inspect and rehabilitate 45 miles of clay sanitary sewer pipes in and around the downtown area. This area is known as the Sand River Basin. You will see the large, black trucks all around downtown as we move forward with all of the improvements.

This is a multi-phase project.  Most of the rehabilitation work is performed using trenchless technology to minimize any disruptions.

The City will provide updates (when available) in the provided link of  truck locations each day as a method to warn of traffic delays, lane closure and possible coned off areas in the roadways, although, sometimes this may not be possible.

Some things you may notice are noises or delays in flushing toilets as we move through certain areas. In cases where the issues seem excessive, feel free to contact the Engineering Department at 642-7610 and we will do our best to assist. Also, if crews are still in the area, please alert them to your concern. They are prepared and equipped to provide immediate assistance to address any concerns.
