Earth Day Festival Returns to Aiken

Thursday, April 6, 2023

The City of Aiken’s annual Earth Day Festival returns to the Newberry St. Festival Area and The Alley on Saturday, April 22, 2023 starting at 9 AM and ending at 1 PM.

The celebration theme is “Preserving for Tomorrow What We All Enjoy Today.” The goal is to engage the Aiken community in a festive atmosphere that promotes environmental awareness, energy conservation, and personal stewardship.

Earth Day Aiken is a family-focused event open to children, adults, and others seeking information on various science, technology, nature, horticulture, and conservation topics. Craft projects, face painting, and a kids’ inflatable run course are also included for the youngest visitors. Family canines on leashes are also welcome.

Earth Day Aiken begins Friday night when local restaurants include an Energy Conservation theme in their dining rooms, frequently using candles and other reduced lighting.

The festive event will include guided small group tours into Hitchcock Woods, a two-mile Fun Run, exhibits, food stations, music, guest speakers, and many fun-filled educational displays. A guided tour of nearby Hitchcock Woods has always been a popular feature of past Earth Day Aiken events. Transportation will be available to shuttle guests between The Woods and the downtown Festival area.

The City of Aiken Energy & Environmental Committee, and many volunteers and exhibitors, are responsible for organizing, raising funds, and supporting this annual event. Earth Day Aiken would not be possible without considerable support from sponsors in the community, and City Departments.
