Aiken City Council passed the first of two readings Monday to clarify how and when food trucks can operate within the City.

The proposed ordinance is primarily an effort to codify the current interpretation of the mobile food vending ordinance, allowing operation on private property with the property owner’s permission, and with additional provisions to preserve the community health, safety, and welfare. The proposed ordinance allows a method for creating mobile food vendor locations other than those on private property through Planning Commission recommendation and City Council approval, according to City documents.
