Risk Manager
Closes: 5/6/2015 : The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a Risk Manager. Major duties include: Administers risk management program; ensures proper coverage for City vehicles, property, and general liability insurance; assists Third Party Administrator (TPA) to process claims. Responds to accidents involving personal injury and/or extensive property damage. Assesses all claims and handles minor claims in-house. Processes insurance-related claims, including automobile, property, general liability, public official liability and law enforcement liability through TPA. Administers workers' compensation program; files claims with insurer; tracks accidents for trends; verifies claims; files appropriate reports. Administers city’s wellness program for employees, retirees and covered dependents. Coordinates annual wellness checks; lunch and learns; research and develop innovative programs. Chairs wellness committee. Coordinates and develops safety related education and training for all employees to ensure regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and proper processes for each job function. Conducts needs assessment, develops training curriculum and conducts training sessions on various Risk Management/Safety topics. Administers city’s nurse and Employee Health Center in partnership with Aiken Regional Medical Center. Serves as City's Safety Officer; enforces safety guidelines; develops safety incentives; serves on Safety Committee. Reviews employee accident reports, including verifying that corrective action is taken by supervisors to prevent recurrence of accidents. Available 24/7 to coordinate emergency and/or service related operations or issues that evolve during daily operations. Investigates accidents and injuries, in cooperation with departmental personnel/and gathers information for use by the City in hearings, lawsuits and investigations. Responsible for ensuring all employees are knowledgeable of and understand the safety procedures implemented by the City; ensures employee and public safety, welfare, wellness, and health at all times. Provides data information to City Manager and City Council concerning the General Liability Modifier, Worker’s Compensation Modifier and OSHA 300 Log. Ensures compliance and proper interpretation of various state and federal regulations concerning occupational safety and health, Worker's Compensation, hazardous communication, commercial driver's licenses, Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act, and blood borne pathogens. Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other City departments, outside vendors, and the general public contacted in the course of work; assists in resolving problems or complaints. Develops and researches new programs as it relates to risk management. Maintains and expands knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws/regulations affecting Safety management. Identifies trends that could impact organizational objectives and/or operational resources. Monitors federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to safety to ensure compliance and implements changes and revisions as the 504 Compliance Officer; attends meetings as needed. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Insurance or related field from an accredited college or university. Two years risk management or insurance program management experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid state driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record. Associate Risk Management (ARM) Certification from the Insurance Institute of America or ARMP for public entities. Facilities Assistant (Part-time) Smith Hazel Pool Operator
Closes: Until filled : The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is accepting applications for year-round Part-Time Facilities Assistant to manage and maintain all aspects of the pool at Smith Hazel Recreation Center. Major duties include: Responsibilities are year round: October — March: Routine winter weekly maintenance (avg. 6-7 hrs/wk) including: checking, monitoring and balancing chemicals, cleaning skimmers & drains, basic overall inspection of pool facility. March — April: Set youth and adult swim lesson schedules; continued maintenance (daily) April — May: Order and inventory chemicals for pool & cleaning supplies; recruit and assist with hiring summer staff; continued maintenance (daily) May — September: Manage entire pool operation in accordance with DHEC regulations; train, schedule & certify water safety instructors & lifeguards; plan, coordinate, schedule & manage work of pool staff for swim lessons and public swim; oversee & direct Red Cross Certified swim lessons for youth & adults; coordinate group swim schedules with day camps, day cares and youth groups; collect and prepare daily receipts for deposit; work with Recreation Coordinator to manage & monitor budgeted revenues and expenditures; prepare monthly reports for May — September; prepare work requests for assistance by Parks Division; continued maintenance (daily.) Hrs. October – March average 8-10hrs/week; April - May average 10-15hrs/week; May-Aug. average 40+/week. Qualifications: Requires Certifications: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding, CPR /1st Aid, and a valid Certified Pool Operator Certificate. Salary depends on qualifications with no benefits. Summer Day Camp Counselors
Closes: Until filled : Major Duties Include: These temporary positions are for the Weeks and Smith-Hazel Activities Centers. Duties include: supervising children 5-12 years of age, planning daily activities indoors and outdoors including, but not limited to, arts, crafts, games and sports, swimming, chaperoning weekly field trips, and interacting with children during all hours of camp. Qualifications: Experience in childcare preferred. Must be 18 years old and able to obtain Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED certification. Salary is $8.74 hourly with no benefits.
