In an effort to increase transparency in government and produce a financial document that is also reader friendly, City of Aiken City Manager, John Klimm, created a team of employees and consultants to update the for-matting of the city budget, which had remained unchanged since 1955. Once the proposed budget was passed by City Council in July of 2016, it was published on the City of Aiken website, where it can be accessed by the public.
For the first time and on its first attempt, the City of Aiken has received the highly regarded Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. Aiken is one of only 10 South Carolina municipalities to receive this national honor. The city’s operating budget was newly revised in July 2016 and submitted to the GFOA, the preeminent municipal government finance group in the country.
The City of Aiken has created a regularly scheduled public affairs program called “Aiken This Week.” Join us as City officials share with the community information related to your local government. The program is available on our YouTube channel and on Atlantic Broadband Channel 4.
