FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Non-Profit Fair
June 13, 2023
9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Aiken, South Carolina – The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Senior Commission, is pleased to announce the Non-profit Fair at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior & Youth Center on June 13, 2023, from 9 am – 12 pm. This event is open to all ages, and admission is free.
The Non-profit Fair will feature 24 local non-profit agencies providing various services to the community, including meal assistance, legal assistance, utility assistance, transportation services, essential home repairs, and more. Guests will be able to learn about these services and meet with representatives from each organization.
Also in attendance will be 2-1-1, Aiken’s information and referral service for community resources. This standalone non-profit, which has been in existence since 1978, provides immediate aid by supplying referrals to local area non-profits. At 2-1-1, the phones are manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. “Not many people in our community are aware that 2-1-1 even exists,” commented Aimee Hanna, chairperson for the Senior Commission. “We wanted to host this fair so that people could understand that 2-1-1 are the boots on the ground, the local experts who make finding help easier.”
There are more than 200 2-1-1 agencies across the United States, each with a team of compassionate, highly trained community specialists who are available to help you access the best local resources and services to address any need. Statewide, 2-1-1 fielded 102,000 calls last year. Aiken’s local 2-1-1 agency typically fields more than 4,000 calls a year.
“Anyone who wants to learn more about the vital services that our community has available to the general public should attend this event. This will be a robust gathering of the most important non-profits under one roof,” offered Commissioner, Margaret Kopp.
In addition to learning about the various services provided by non-profit organizations, guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast. There will also be a raffle for attendees to win a $150 gift card.
The Senior Commission, The Senior Commission, a standing body of the City of Aiken, is appointed by members of the Aiken City Council. The mission of the Senior Commission is to facilitate the implementation of improvements to advance the well-being of seniors in Aiken.
