Aiken, SC– On July 15, 2019, two meetings will be held to provide information on the Brownfields Assessment Grant, at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior Youth Center, located 841 Edgefield Ave, NW.
The first meeting will begin at 4 PM and will focus on development opportunities and reinvestment in the community, and the Opportunity Zone designation for a portion of this area.
The second meeting will begin at 5 PM and will provide the community with information about the program and the importance of community support for these projects, showcasing the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior Youth Center.
In April of 2018, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) selected the City of Aiken for two Brownfields Assessment Grants totaling $300,000. The grants are funded in the amount of $200,000 for hazardous substances and $100,000 for petroleum. Grant funds will be used to inventory and prioritize potential brownfield sites, Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, development of four cleanup plans, a community involvement plan, and conduct community outreach activities.
Proven success has been achieved in our community through our State’s Brownfields program with the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior Youth Center project. The project has realized the assessment of pesticide-impacted soils, Underground Storage Tank (UST)-related soil & groundwater impacts, asbestos, and lead-paint at the former school district maintenance facility adjacent to Eustis Park.
