Aiken City Council Renames Two Parks

Monday, April 19, 2021

Aiken City Council passed a resolution on April 12, 2021 to amend the name of Generations Park, located on Highway 1 North, to Beverly D. Clyburn Generations Park. Additionally, City Council passed to rename Heritage Park at the intersection of Richland Ave E and York St to Founders Park.

Beverly D. Clyburn, served Aiken for over 50 years as a community, civic, and public education leader. Clyburn also served as a council member in Aiken from 1988-2011, representing District 1 and Mayor Pro Tem from 2002 to 2004.

Founders Park was named to recognize the efforts of a multiracial group of men that founded Aiken county in 1871
