Innovative Stormwater System Coming to Downtown Aiken this Winter
If you see workers toiling in Aiken’s beautiful downtown parkways over the winter they are implementing an innovative approach to add even more beauty to our fair city and to greatly lessen stormwater damage to Hitchcock Woods.
The workers will install a system of rain gardens, bioswales, underground cisterns and pervious pavement to provide smart green solutions for urban stormwater management, said Gene Eidson, Ph.D., a Clemson University professor who has put together a team of scientist to design the demonstration project.
These techniques will enhance nature’s capacity to absorb stormwater and provide both economic and environmentally sound approaches to reduce stormwater flows that are impacting Sand River, Hitchcock Woods and other downstream impaired waters, he said. Read the rest of this article »
