FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aiken, SC – The City of Aiken is bracing for the anticipated arctic cold air over the next couple of days. City of Aiken Engineering & Utilities Department is providing essential tips to help residents prepare their homes and avoid potential water and sewer emergencies.
Preparing Your Home
Inside
Open the cabinets under the sinks in your kitchen and bathrooms to allow heated air to circulate the water pipes (especially at night).
Let indoor faucets drip, but do not run a heavy stream of water but a constant drip.
Outside
Protect faucets, outdoor pipes, and pipes in unheated areas with pipe insulation. Wrapping them with rags, newspapers, trash bags, plastic foam, or even bubble wrap can provide protection in a pinch.
Drain water hoses and store them in a garage or shed.
Drain irrigation water supply lines or turn any sprinklers off.
Emergency Contacts
In case of any water or sewer emergencies, residents are urged to contact the following numbers:
Monday-Friday 7AM-5PM: 803-642-7617
After hours or weekends: 803-642-7620
Please note that placing a sewer emergency call when the temperature is below 33 degrees may delay services.
The Jet truck can only operate when the temperature is above 33 degrees. Residents are advised to exercise caution and adhere to these guidelines to ensure their safety and minimize potential damage during the cold weather.
