Aiken City Council Pledges Full Support the “Drivers For A Cure” South Carolina License Plate

Tuesday, February 25, 2020

Mayor Rick Osbon and the Council of the City of Aiken presented a proclamation at the council meeting held on February 24, 2020, in support of the South Carolina License Plate “Drivers for a Cure” and urges the South Carolina General Assembly to pass the bill and the Governor of South Carolina to sign the bill.

The proclamation states that the Aiken City Council recognizes that cancer is an insidious disease that has affected almost every family in Aiken. Aiken Public Safety employee David Turno, a cancer survivor, accepted the proclamation. Turno, who started a 5K road race, “Tag, You’re It,” to raise funds for a specialty license plate, “Drivers for a Cure,” with proceeds from the plate going to the M.U.S.C. Hollings Cancer Center and the Duke Cancer Institute. The bill is currently under consideration by the South Carolina General Assembly.
