9:00 am – 12:00 pm

AIKEN, SC — (September 25, 2023) The City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, in conjunction with the Senior Commission, will host a free Senior Caregiver Program on Thursday, October 12, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior & Youth Center, 841 Edgefield Avenue NW. This event will allow caregivers to refresh, renew, and re-educate on subjects about the art of caregiving.

All registered participants will attend two 45-minute educational sessions pertinent to caregiving. The speakers include Lori Comshaw, BS, ACEcPT, owner of At Home Personal Training, Inc. She is an Exercise Physiologist focusing on special populations, activities of daily living (ADLs), and making exercise fun; Montrese Edwards, RN, CDCES, will speak as a certified Diabetes care and education specialist. Currently employed with Rural Health Services, Inc., Montrese will share her passion for improving health outcomes in the community.

With both speakers, “the Senior Commission hopes to offer caregivers valuable resources available in our community along with inspirational guidance on how to best deal with meal preparation, comfort care, fall and injury prevention, medication reminders, the importance of exercise and more,” says Aimee Hanna, chairperson for Senior Commission.

A light breakfast is available for all participants. The sponsor for the breakfast is St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Aiken.

Registration for this event is required. Participants can register by calling the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior & Youth Center at (803) 643-2181. The event is free. It is first come, first served for the first 100 people.

Thanks to our sponsors: Benton House, Family Pharmacy, Gentiva Hospice, Hearing Associates of South Carolina, Merry Maids, Savannah River ProHome Care, Quality Medical Management and Shellhouse Funeral Home / Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. Each sponsor will preside at their respective booth to educate caregivers about the wealth of essential services, programs, and support.

The Senior Commission comprises seven members appointed by the Aiken City Council to make recommendations to the Aiken City Council and encourage improvements to advance the well-being of seniors (those over 50 years old) in Aiken.

The City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism invites people of all ability levels to enjoy programs, parks, and facilities. Individuals needing special assistance to participate should notify PRT Administrative Office 48 hours in advance.
