The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department (PRT) is providing playground upgrades to local parks based on input from the community.
Citizen engagement sessions were held from August 31, 2021 through September 2, 2021 at each respective park. The community voted on playground design options for the individual parks to assist PRT in selecting equipment.
The final selections along with color schemes are as follows:
Hammond-Williams Park
Pyramid Peak | Papaya color scheme
Crosland Park
Alchemy | Bayou color scheme
Kalmia Hill Park
Double Trouble | Wisteria color scheme
In a City Council work session held on August 9, the scope of the projects were reviewed; including demolition, installation of new equipment, surfacing, and amenities. The final approval was given by City Council on September 13.
The funding for the new playground designs comes from voter approval of CPST IV projects on November 6, 2018, which included Neighborhood Parks Playground Replacement budgeted for $500,000.
