Aiken Recognize One Year Anniversary Designation as a Pet-Friendly City

Tuesday, August 9, 2022

The City of Aiken will mark its one-year anniversary as a Pet-Friendly City with a proclamation from the Aiken City Council on August 8, 2022. The Better Cities for Pets certification, which was first awarded to Aiken in August 2021, recognizes cities that have met or exceeded pet-friendliness standards.

Aiken City Council’s proclamation conveys the importance of pets to more than 8,000 city families. Pets offer companionship, unconditional love, and often provide us with comic relief. Additionally, pets are known to improve people’s physical and mental health by encouraging exercise and providing a sense of purpose.

The City of Aiken recognizes the efforts of community members who work tirelessly to create a safe and welcoming environment for animals and especially those responsible pet owners who ensure the wellbeing of their pets. Whether through volunteering with animal shelters and rescue groups, adopting homeless pets, ensuring their pets have proper care and veterinary attention, or making their businesses pet-welcoming, these residents make a difference for animals in Aiken.

Aiken Mayor Rick Osbon is a big supporter of the City’s pet-friendly initiatives. “Aiken is a great place to live or visit if you’re a pet lover. With its many pet-friendly amenities and businesses, the City has everything necessary to keep pets healthy and safe. The City Council is grateful to those individuals and organizations that endeavor to make Aiken a Pet-Friendly City every day.”
