Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum Named South Carolina’s Best Equestrian Attraction

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

The Hollywood-based TV and Web team, “The Official Best Of,” named the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum as South Carolina’s Best Equestrian Attraction for 2012. The show’s team researched destinations and attractions in almost every state looking for the best of everything for travel enthusiasts.

Hall of Fame supervisor, Lisa Hall, said she believes this is the first time that Aiken has been highlighted by The Official Best Of. “It was an unexpected but pleasant surprise,” Hall said. The Hall of Fame and Museum opened in 1977 in the former carriage house at Hopelands, roughly seven years after the City of Aiken accepted the gift of Hopelands Gardens from Hope Goddard Iselin.

The Hall of Fame is open from September to May, Tuesday through Friday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weather permitting. For more information on the Hall of Fame or about volunteering to become a docent, call (803) 642-7650 or visit http://www.aikenracinghalloffame.com.
