Welcome to the City of Aiken Engineering and Utilities Department

The Engineering & Utilities Department is responsible for the construction, repair, maintenance, and replacement of Aiken’s infrastructure related to water, wastewater, stormwater, streets, and parks. The core functions of the department include the routine maintenance and operation of the city’s water, sanitary sewer & stormwater utility systems, the long-term maintenance of the city’s streets and sidewalk facilities, routine maintenance of the regional airport and industrial parks, development and delivery of roadway corridor improvement projects including bicycle & pedestrian improvements, as well as the administration of the city’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), Fats, Oils & Grease (F.O.G.), backflow prevention, and fire hydrant flushing programs.

Support services include but are not limited to Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) mapping and data services, GIS-based work order system, Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD), developer plans and other technical reviews, program development & project management, contract & grant administration, construction inspection, and the ongoing operation of the city warehouse and garage.
