Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department Wins State Award

Our City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism has been named the 2011 Class III (agencies between 25,000 to 50,000 population) Agency of the Year by the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association (https://www.scrpa.org/) during their annual meeting in September. This recognition praised our Aiken PRT for providing outstanding facilities, programs and services for the citizens of Aiken. Before moving into Class III, Aiken won the Class II award 14 times over 25 years beginning in 1975. Aiken has won three times in Class III since 2004. An agency may only apply once every four years, making Aiken the winner every year we were eligible. Aiken PRT Director Glenn Parker praised the PRT staff “for creating the programs and maintaining the facilities that won this state-wide recognition.”
