The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department’s Story Time, a cherished reading program that promotes literacy in our community’s youth, begins its spring season on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 4:00 P.M. Story Time is free to attend and is held on the grounds of Rye Patch, located at 100 Berrie Rd. This season, our stories will celebrate the joys of learning, friendship, and new experiences, bringing you plenty of exciting reading adventures each week!
Every family in attendance will receive a free book to take home to build their own library and encourage a lifelong love of reading. This program occurs every Tuesday afternoon in March, April, and May. Parents are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket; snacks and drinks are welcome. We also ask attending families to bring used books from home to help stock the Little Free Library in Hopelands Gardens. Located behind the Doll House, the Library provides a free book exchange that has further fostered the mission of Story Time since its installation in 2017.
Story Time would not be possible without support from these gracious sponsors: The United Way of Aiken County; Rotary Club of Aiken; The Friends of Hopelands and Rye Patch, Inc.; Linda and Gayle Gulick; Wesley Bodie, ERA Real Estate Agent and John Lamprecht, ERA Real Estate Agent; SMBG&M; Chick-Fil-A. If your business or organization is interested in supporting this program through sponsorship, please visit https://www.cityofaikensc.gov/sponsorship/ or reach out directly to Rebekah Mayfield, Tourism Coordinator via our online form.
The City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism invites people of all ability levels to enjoy programs, parks, and facilities. Individuals needing special assistance to participate should notify PRT Administrative Office 48 hours in advance.
In inclement weather, Story Time will be held inside Rye Patch Reception Center.
