Freedom of Information Fee Schedule

In early 2017, the South Carolina General Assembly revised sections of the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, specifically Title 30, Chapter 15 of the South Carolina Code of Laws.  A municipality’s primary requirement is that a fee schedule be established for searching, retrieving, redacting, and copying records.  Pursuant to South Carolina law, the City of Aiken may not charge fees that exceed the actual cost of the search, retrieval, and redaction of records.  The fee for the search, retrieval, or redaction of records shall not exceed the prorated hourly salary of the lowest paid employee who, in the reasonable discretion of the custodian of the records, has the necessary skill and training to perform the request.
