City of Aiken Recreation Commission
The City of Aiken’s Recreation Commission works from a primary mission statement provided by Aiken City Council and a visioning statement developed by the commission. The mission of the City of Aiken Recreation Commission is to serve as a liaison between the city residents and program participants and the Aiken City Council to ensure the development and provision of appropriate, quality recreation facilities, services, and programs. Aiken provides and expands quality recreational facilities, equipment, and programs to stay ahead of the growing needs of its citizens and to be a leader in the state. The seven commissioners appointed by City Council represent Aiken city residents and non-residents. The youth commissioners are recommended by the Department of Parks and Recreation and are then appointed by the Aiken Recreation Commission.
