City of Aiken Property Code Enforcement
The Building Inspection Division is responsible for Property Code Enforcement in the City of Aiken. The City enforces the International Property Maintenance Code and the Aiken City Codes that govern the general maintenance of the interior and the exterior of any structure and the overall general upkeep of the property area. The codes also cover structures that are substandard for living conditions or structures that are dilapidated and need to be demolished. If you believe there may be an issue in your neighborhood, such as junk cars or overgrown grasses, or other property maintenance issues, please get in touch with the Property Code Inspector at 803-642-7675.
When a violation is found, the owner or the tenant of that property will be sent a letter notifying them of the violations and the time frame for correcting them.
For chronic problems that have not been corrected through regular efforts, the City of Aiken has established Livability Court. Many cities have found that this court helps expedite resolving issues such as barking dogs, junk/abandoned cars, or tall grass. For more information about this program, please contact the Property Code Inspector, in the Building Inspection Division, at 803-642-7675. All concerns about animal-related issues, such as barking dogs, should be directed to the Animal Control Officer, at Aiken Public Safety, at 803-642-7620.
Demo 200 Program
When a property becomes dilapidated beyond repair, the City of Aiken may elect, through DEMO 200, to demolish the property for a small fee paid by the property owner. For more information about this program, please contact the Property Code Inspector, in the Building Inspection Division, at 803-642-7670.
