The City of Aiken officially opened Tax Books for collection of 2022 Property Taxes on November 2, 2022. The City of Aiken Millage Rate for 2022 will be 60 Mills.
The City of Aiken real estate tax and certain other personal property tax, other than automobile, for 2022 are due and payable. If you have not received your tax notice for City Taxes by the end of November, please contact the City of Aiken Finance Department immediately.
Note: City of Aiken tax bills are mailed to addresses furnished by taxpayers to the Aiken County Assessor’s Office. All corrections, including name and address updates, are sent to the City of Aiken by the Aiken County Assessor’s Office. Failure to receive a tax bill because of an incorrect address or transfer of ownership after December 31, 2021 does not excuse penalty.
Purchasers of real estate after January 1, 2022 have an obligation for payment of property taxes whether or not a bill is received.
Taxes are due and payable through January 17, 2023, with no penalty
- 5% penalty due January 18, 2023 through February 21, 2023
10% penalty due February 22, 2023 through March 23, 2023
15% penalty due March 24, 2023 through April 25, 2023
On April 26, 2023, a 2 ½% penalty is added and unpaid taxes are turned over to the Delinquent Tax Collector for collection.
Taxes are not paid until the check clears the bank.
Payment of delinquent City of Aiken Taxes may be made only by:
- Cash
- Cashier’s Check
- Credit/Debit Card
A 2.49% service fee on credit cards, that is not greater than our cost of acceptance, is added to all transactions.
All debit/credit card transactions must be great than $10 (in office only). For more information about this limit see Page 698 in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that was passed on July 2010.
No personal or business checks will be accepted.
